IMPORTANT UPDATE 2/28/24: 
Due to circumstances outside of their control, Missouri Hockey has cancelled the 2024 America's Showcase tournament in St. Louis.  There is not another equivalent showcase event in the Midwest in 2024, so the difficult decision to NOT form a Girls Team Midwest this summer has been made.  *Player Registrations will be cancelled and refunds made to card used.  There are summer hockey playing opportunities for girls in the 19U/16U age categories through the Midwest Selects program - be sure to check the MWAHA website for details.

Tryout Date: Saturday March 16, 2024
Time: 12:30 pm and 5:45pm (Players must attend both tryout sessions)
Check-in: Starts at 11:30am
Location: Cedar Rapids Ice Arena (1100 Rockford Rd SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404)

Tryout Fee: $50 per player (+ any service charge) paid at registration - no refunds 

Team selection will take place after tryouts. 

Tryouts for Girls Team Midwest, MWAHA’s entry in the 2024 America’s High School Hockey Showcase, https://www.americasshowcasestlouis.com/, are open to all sophomore, junior and senior high school players in the Midwest Affiliate. The Showcase will take place April 18-22, 2024 in St. Louis, Missouri. Girls Team Midwest is coached by Jade Pospeshil and team manager is Angela Ploegman.

Be sure to read the Welcome Players and Parents letter below to understand the full commitment and requirements players are expected to make.

**Bring a copy of your players USAH membership the day of tryouts.  It is the one with the barcode. It can be found at www.usahockey.com.  Under players and parents select membership, then scroll to request duplicate registration confirmation.  Tryout fee and forms due before you can enter the locker room!

Welcome Players & Parents

America's Showcase will take place from April 18th – 22nd 2024, in St. Louis, MO. The Team Midwest staff is honored to have the opportunity to be involved with the top High School players in the Midwest Affiliate . We feel that America's High School Showcase offers players a great opportunity to be exposed to College and Professional Scouts from throughout the USA and the honor to represent the Midwest in the best High School Hockey event in North America.

It is very important that all players trying out for this team understand the requirements and the commitment they are expected to make, including the following points: 

Tryouts —Tryouts are March 16th, 2024, at 12:30 and 5:45 pm at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, Cedar Rapids, IA.  The tryout fee is $50. We must have a minimum of 18 skaters and 2 goalies with a maximum roster of 25. In addition to being a sophomore, junior or senior in high school, eligible players must be playing Tier 1 or Tier 2 hockey within the affiliate and/OR have a primary mailing address (as listed on their USA hockey registration) within the affiliate. Players that cannot come to the March 16th date for valid reasons may still be given a roster spot. Valid reasons for not being at the tryout would be a commitment you have already made to your current team or spring break. Registration and payment of the registration fee is still required to be considered. Please contact Angela if you would like to be considered but cannot make it on March 16th.

Team Fees – Team fees are expected to be $1200. If you are chosen to play for Team Midwest Showcase, payment of team fees is expected the on acceptance. Please bring a check or money order with you on March 16th made out to: Team Midwest. Venmo payments will also be accepted this year. 

The fees cover Bus, Hotel, Ice time, Warm-ups, Team Apparel, Jerseys/socks, Food, Snacks, Showcase Fees, etc. The only money a player would need to bring to the showcase, would be for personal items or gifts. We will be gone 5 days and it comes to approximately $240 a day per player. Our team is supported financially by the Midwest Affiliate. We will work with you to get the payment from you as soon as possible.

BOYS TEAM MIDWEST 
Boys Team Midwest will be sharing a bus with us this year down to St. Louis and while we are at the tournament.  They stay at a different hotel near the Girls Team Midwest hotel, so it makes sharing a bus convenient and reduces the cost for all players.   For more information on the Boys Team Midwest opportunity please see the separate announcement and register for their tryouts go to tristatehockey.com. 

TRANSPORTATION 

The teams will be traveling to St. Louis on Wednesday, April 17th, 2023, and returning sometime Monday, April 22nd, depending on how we finish. We contracted with CIT Charters to depart out of Des Moines Iowa and then travel to Kansas City if we have players from this location, and then continue to St. Louis. Parents can take their player home after the last game if they wish.  Coaches would like all players to ride the bus to the tournament to encourage team bonding.  We also have scrimmages planned for the day we arrive with Team North Dakota for both the boys and girls teams. 

 Angela Ploegman will be chaperoning the girls team at the girls hotel.

Parents are welcome to come to the tournament, but the team stays at a hotel with the mangers and coaching staff selected by the tournament.
