MWAHA Hockey Development Plan

The success of hockey for players within the USA Hockey MWAHA Affiliate relies on two important aspects, coach & player development. Today we are announcing two key initiatives.

A Player Development Plan with objectives to promote the American Development Model (ADM) and develop players to their highest potential in order to play high level hockey and remain on teams within their local association.

A Coach Development Plan that provides a forum for coaches to enhance their coaching skills and support Affiliate wide initiatives.

The MWAHA Executive Council has appointed committees to lead these two Initiatives and have tentative plans for announcement within the next 30 days.

One key objective regarding Player Development includes the formation of “Team Midwest” at the 11 through 14 age levels as well as continuing the Team Midwest concept for Pre and Post Season teams at the upper age levels. Watch for an email regarding Team Midwest for players born in 2011 and 2012.

A few key objectives for Coach Development include the formation of an Affiliate Coaches Organization, the opportunity to work with coaches from across the Affiliate, and coaching seminars beyond what’s provided through the USA Hockey Coaching Certification Program. Tentative plans are being developed for a Coaching Seminar on 25 June 2023.

The success of these initiatives relies on the support and involvement of all MWAHA Associations … we look forward to exciting times ahead.
