Tryout pre-registration for Girls Team Midwest is now open.

Tryout Fee: $75 per player will be collected the day of tryouts at check-in.

Tryouts for Girls Team Midwest, the MAHA’s entry in the 2023 America’s High School Hockey Showcase, https://www.americasshowcasestlouis.com/, is open to all sophomore, junior and senior high school players in the Midwest Affiliate. The Showcase will take place April 20-24 in St. Louis, Missouri. Girls Team Midwest is coached by Eric Houy and team manager is Jessica Hurd.

Be sure to read the Welcome Players and Parents letter below to understand the full commitment and requirements players are expected to make. Tryout fee is $75 per player.

**Bring a copy of your players USAH membership the day of tryouts.  It is the one with the barcode. It can be found at www.usahockey.com.  Under players and parents select membership, then scroll to request duplicate registration confirmation.  Tryout fee and forms due before you can enter the locker room!

Team selection will take place after tryouts. If selected, you are expected to pay the $1,200 participation fee the day of tryouts, or venmo or send a check as soon as you are contacted.  This fee is the cost for the entire trip. Transportation, tournament fees, hotel room, food, and team warm ups. Parents are welcome to come to the tournament, but the team stays at a hotel with the mangers and coaching staff selected by the tournament.

Welcome Players & Parents
America's Showcase will take place from April 20st – 24th 2023, in St. Louis, MO. The Team Midwest staff is honored to have the opportunity to be involved with the top High School players in the Midwest Affiliate . We feel that America's High School Showcase offers players a great opportunity to be exposed to Junior, College and Professional Scouts from throughout the USA and the honor to represent the Midwest in the best High School Hockey event in North America.

It is very important that all players trying out for this team understand the requirements and the commitment they are expected to make. With the short amount of time we have to put this Team together, we would like all players to understand the following points:
Tryouts —Try out is April 1st at the Ames Ice Arena. The try out fee is $75. We must have a minimum of 18 skaters and 2 goalies with a maximum roster of 25. All players must have played 50% of their games for the season on a MWAHA team. If we have players that can not come on the April 1st date we may still have a roster spot. Reasons for not being at the try out would be a commitment  you’ve already made to your current team or spring break. Please contact Jessica if you would like to be considered but can not make it on April 1st.

Commitment — If you are selected to be on the team, both the boys and girls teams will be traveling to St. Louis on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, and returning sometime Monday, April 24th, depending on how we finish. We contracted with CIT Charters and Navigator to run two buses. Navigator will depart out of Omaha and make a stop in west Des Moines and eastern Kansas City to pick up players for both teams before traveling to St. Louis. The CIT bus will depart from Davenport Iowa and go directly to the St. Louis. Once we are in St. Louis the buses will become a boys team bus and a girls team bus because while the teams play at the same rink, they stay at separate hotels. Players are welcome to leave with their families after the tournament, but the buses will be returning on the same routes back to Omaha and Davenport. Last year the coaches required everyone to travel to the tournament together to encourage team bonding. We highly encourage this. Once we arrive in St. Louis we will have a boys team practice at Centene Ice Arena, and a girls team practice at Maryville University Hockey Center. Both teams will eat dinner and attend a meeting Wednesday night before the tournament starts with the tournament organizers. Last year they got to hear speakers talk about playing hockey beyond high school and the opportunities that are available. We have booked additional ice time for the Girls team to practice on Thursday morning since we don’t have time to practice before we leave. Jessica Hurd will be chaperoning the girls team at the girls hotel and Mike Hurd will be chaperoning the boys team at the boys hotel.

Team Fees – If you are chosen to play for Team Midwest Showcase, on the day of tryouts April 1st we need to have a $1200 check or money order made out to: Team Midwest. We will work with you to get the payment as soon as possible from you. We will also accept Venmo payments this year. This money covers Bus, Hotel, Ice time, Warm-ups, Team Apparel, Jerseys/socks, Food, Snacks, Showcase Fees, etc. The only money a player would need to bring to the showcase, would be for personal items or gifts. We will be gone 5 days and it comes to $240 a day per player. Our team is supported financially by the Midwest Affiliate.
